The TCRC Grand Prix is free and open to all runners, members and non-members alike. Grand Prix standings are computed from the official results of each Grand Prix race with the exception of the marathon. To compete in the Grand Prix, runners may choose five races out of the list set forth below and must fulfill one volunteer requirement at any local road race or TCRC track meet.

Runners who complete the Grand Prix will receive a finisher's momento, plus we will have awards in the following categories:

  • M/F Open, Masters (40 and Over),

  • Veterans (50 and Over)

  • Youth (18 & Under).

  • Age Group Categories: (Will receive recognition at the banquet)

    • 70+

The awards will be given in the order listed: Open, Masters, Veterans, and Youth. There will be no duplicate awards. For example, if the first four runners are 40, 65, 49, and 51, the 40 year old is the Open (any age) winner, the 65 year old is the Masters (40 and up) winner, and the 51 year old is the Veterans winner. The 49 year old will receive an age-group award only.

Elligibility for Awards

Runners must submit their marathon results (run on a certified course) and AGE as of January 1st of the current year to Greg Amend for inclusion in the Grand Prix. Please email your information using a descriptive title such as "Marathon Time" or "Grand Prix Data" to avoid confusion with Spam.

All runners must submit their volunteer requirement to Greg Amend for determination of the final standings. The volunteer requirement can be met at any time during the calendar year. The volunteer work must include a task that is assigned by the race director and necessary for the operation of the race.

To reduce possible scoring errors, participants are encouraged to always use the same name when they sign up for a race. For example, just use either Mike or Michael, but not both versions throughout the season.

The deadline for submittal of volunteer and marathon information is January 15. Submissions after this date will not be accepted.

For awards and scoring purposes, ages will be based on your age as of January 1 of the Grand Prix year (e.g., 1-1-2014 for the 2014 GP).

A "performance factor" will be used to determine standings. The points will be computed from a formula based on world records as of January 2003.

If a runner runs a world record for the distance, he or she will receive approximately 1000 points. To determine your PF, see the women's table or men's table.

For further details and a discussion of the justification for the PF in the Grand Prix, please see TCRC Grand Prix - Performance Factor

Award winners will be determined using the sum of performance factors. Each individual's score will use his or her highest five performance factors. Chip times will be used for race scoring, when available.

Changes to

the Grand Prix

  • 2020 - The Grand Prix was overhauled please see the new page for details. Click here

  • 2017 - replaced the Chris Thater 5K (no longer being held) with the Empire Road Race Series 10K at Porchfest

  • 2014 - added the Turkey Trot 5 Mile run and dropped one of the 5K races.

  • 2013 - added restriction that 400 and 800 results are not counted towards the open award, only the youth award.

  • 2011 - the Chamber of Commerce Bridge Run Half-Marathon and 5K were added to the list of races. The TCRC Scholarship Run 8K will be a non-competitive Turkey Trot, so it has been removed from the Grand Prix. Since there is now a local half-marathon, other half-marathons will not be included henceforth.

  • 2010 - the rules were changed so that the 400-meter and 800-meter events will only be scored for those 14 and under.

  • 2007 - the list for Youth participants was expanded to include the 400 meters and the 800 meters.

  • 2005 - the rules were amended to include any marathon in the list of eligible races.

  • 2004 - the service requirement was relaxed, so that service can be performed at a much larger number of events.
